Doug Rogers

doug-rogers3As a member of the Takushoku University team coached by Masahiko Kimura, Rogers won the team pennant at the 1965 All Japan University Championships. He was selected as Best Fighter at the same tournament. An excellent student, Rogers was accepted by McGill University for studies there but instead, having been accepted to the Kodokan, boarded a plane for Japan in 1960. Able to hold his own against top judoka in Japan, the Canadian Olympic Committee recruited Rogers.  In 1964, at the Tokyo Olympics, heavyweight Doug Rogers went up against Isao Inokuma, the all Japan Champion. At the end of a truly championship bout, it was a narrow decision for Inokuma but with his silver medal, Doug Rogers had become Canada’s first judoka to mount the Olympic medal podium at the first Olympics where judo was included.

Doug Rogers went on to win gold at two Pan-American games and several Canadian National championships. Another mark of his judo skill is his taking of 4th place at the 1972 Olympics despite having been out of serious training for many years.

Dynamic MMA Fitness Tips

    • It’s been forever since I updated this section of the website! For those of you who check, sorry about that folks.

Here are a few pearls of wisdom from one of my training fitness gurus. If you haven’t heard of him, www.johnberardi.com gives some awesome and practical advice with regards to fitness, nutrition and training. Here are some motivational nuggets.

      • New trainees need an environment rich in supportive and like-minded people. Without them, the psychological and physiological weight of their training will break their resolve. But, once aligned with brothers and sisters in iron, there’s nothing they can’t accomplish.
      • Experienced trainees must learn that only the most critical and challenging individuals will push them beyond their barriers. Surrounding yourself with groupies and undiscriminating ego strokers will only lead to stagnation
